Workington – Light Works

Workington Lightworks
Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December | 5:30pm-8.30pm

Hall Park, Workington

After the incredible success of Light Works Workington last year, which welcomed over 10,000 visitors, the much-loved festival of light is back – and expanding. This December, Light Works will illuminate Workington on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December, before heading to Seascale on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December.

Seascale’s first ever community-driven Light Works, with schools and local groups joining the celebrations to launch the festival with a spectacular lantern parade. As part of the creative build-up, community groups have also been invited to design light projections that will be transformed into illuminated sculptures by Fluid Productions.

Opening Lantern parade (Saturday only)

We hope you will join us for the community lantern parade on Saturday 6th December to begin our Light Works festival. We will gather outside the Unicorn Gates at Workington Hall Park at 5.00pm and the parade will set off at 5.30pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

If you made a lantern at Helena Thompson Museum, please collect it at 4.30pm. If you made a lantern at Moorclose Community Centre, please collect it at The Unicorn Gates (next to Horse Close car park) at 5pm.

The lantern parade route is suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs, but it may be uneven and slippy under foot. We recommend that people bring torches, dress up warm and where suitable footwear and clothing for the weather.

You don’t need to have made a lantern to take part, everyone is welcome!

How to get there:

Parking is limited at Horse Close car park (CA14 4YB) so where possible we recommend that you walk to Hall Park. There are plenty of other pay and display carparks in Workington town centre within walking distance. You can find a list of local car parks HERE.

Bus time tables can be found HERE

Train time tables can be found HERE (please note there is a considerable walk from the Train Station to Hall Park- approximately 25 mins).
