Seascale – Light Works
Seascale Village
Tonight’s Seascale Light Works is cancelled.
We are so disappointed to have to make this decision – especially after such a super special night last night – and we are truly sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this will cause.
Thank you for your understanding.
Take care and stay safe
After the incredible success of Light Works Workington last year, which welcomed over 10,000 visitors, the much-loved festival of light is back – and expanding. This December, Light Works will illuminate Workington on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December, before heading to Seascale on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December.
This year’s events promise to be even bigger and more community-driven, with schools and local groups joining the celebrations to launch each festival with a spectacular lantern parade. As part of the creative build-up, community groups have also been invited to design light projections that will be transformed into illuminated sculptures by Fluid Productions.
In Seascale, the light festival will shine alongside another much-loved local tradition – the Christmas Tree Festival at St Cuthbert’s Church, offering visitors a full festive weekend of community spirit.
Light Works events are free to attend, open to all, and powered by community generosity. While there’s no need to book, visitors will have the opportunity to support the events through donations, helping to keep these illuminating celebrations accessible to everyone.
This community led light works project has been made possible thanks to the support of Arts Council England, Cumberland Council and Mid Copeland GDF Community Partnership.
Programme for the weekend:
Opening Lantern parade (Saturday only)
We hope you will join us for the community lantern parade on Saturday 13th December to begin our Light Works festival. We will gather outside St Cuthbert’s Church at 5.00pm and the parade will set off at 5.30pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The lantern parade route is suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs, but it may be uneven and slippy under foot. We recommend that people bring torches, dress up warm and where suitable footwear and clothing for the weather.
You don’t need to have made a lantern to take part, everyone is welcome!
Across the light works you can experience lots of different worlds:
1) The Community Lantern Parade (Saturday 5.30pm)
2) The Magic Light Pathway
3) Our Super Light Tunnel
4) The Christmas Tree World of Dance and Poems
5) The Light Dance Project
6) The Community Light Works Carol – 6pm, 7pm, 8pm
7) The Magical Squiggle Voice people
8) St Cuthbert’s Church Christmas Tree Festival
9) Christmas Market at Windscale Club (Sunday only)
10) Light Sculpture Park
11) Winter Water Illuminations
