West Coast Makers
Sessions took place in Workington, Mondays 6pm-8pm
Do you want to explore what ‘making’ and ‘creating’ mean to you? Are you interested in writing or performing? Want to explore spoken word and Afro fusion dance in an ensemble of other brilliant young people?
West Coast Makers is a creative space to come together and be collectively ambitious – a room in which to ask one another what it is to be beautifully and riotously us. Maybe you crave a space to be yourself in, are fizzing with music but sick of scales or know there’s a poem hiding in your heart – this is the place to dare, dream and do.
West Coast Makers is a safe and accessible space and we are particularly interested in hearing from queer young people and their allies. Come and make a noise about what it is to be creatively wild in Cumbria today.
West Coast Makers is free & we have two groups:
14-17 year olds
18-21 year olds
West Coast Makers is delivered by North Star Co-Design.
North Star Co-Design was established in 2023 by theatre maker Louie Ingham and writer Lee Mattinson. Based in the North of England, they co-create with people in a variety of settings and their process is a person-led approach to making ambitious new ideas happen. They are powered by a co-led idea and experiment with doing things differently in curious, bold and unmissable new ways.
Their work has co-created new worlds with a host of extraordinary people in unexpected places. Working with community collaborators with untold stories and unheard voices, they have and continue to make new work on stages, in fields, up mountains, on beaches and across estates.
They focus on illuminating the beauty and chaos of the world we live in now and believe it is the idea that binds us.
